Currently, we understand obesity as a pathological state caused by an excess of body fat, which underestimates the multidimensionality of the problem. The concept of Chronic Metabolic Adipose Disease (CMAD) better addresses the need to define obesity as a complex, heterogeneous, chronic disease that varies in its pathophysiology, progression, and response to the different therapeutic strategies used.
